Stas Bags is a St. Petersburg-based artist born in Leningrad in 1984. He studied anatomy and human physiology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, and also graduated from the Pro Arte Institute and the «Cabinet of Curiosities» educational program organized by Pro Arte and the KUVA Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. His artistic practice has developed at the intersection of research-based inquiry and contemporary art.
His works are represented in the collections of the State Russian Museum, the Vladimir Mayakovsky State Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, the Van Abbemuseum in the Netherlands, the Getty Research Institute, and other international collections. Since 2019, Stas Bags has curated the «New Urban Artists» project, which works with artists from residential neuropsychiatric institutions. From 2023 to 2025, he taught the course «Art Practice» at the School of Design of HSE University.
